Lifeboat, davit and walkway load test water bags are designed so that personnel can place the required number of bags inside the lifeboat or on the walkway, then exit the boat or walkway area to increase the load gradually and evenly.
This allows for controlled loading and unloading of the test weight, minimising the risk to personnel and equipment.
Loading is measured and verified by means of a calibrated flow meter.

They are light weight for shipping, flexible and are made from tough PVC fabric that is durable and has a wipe clean surface. A 375kg water bag weighs 10kg when empty.
The operation of test loading occurs gradually allowing the operator to increase the load at intermediate points. This prevents shock loading and allows the early identification of any technical issues.
Using a flow meter gives accurate test load results meaning there is no end to the number of tests that can be carried out to meet specific equipment requirements.
For the safety of personnel and equipment test water is drained in situ. This avoids the need to lower the load in hazardous areas or for personnel to enter the lifeboat whilst under load.
They are accepted by major classification and certification organisations including ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and Lloyds Register.
